Repainting Kitchen Cabinets

You should have a clean and hygienic looking kitchen and a cabinet when you have guests arriving shortly for a few days stay at your house. If your present cabinet is quite old then you need to think of doing a reface work which in essential means removing the damaged parts and replacing them with new woods. After that is over you may then make plans for repainting kitchen cabinets in earnest.

The job of repainting cabinets is not for starters or those who have little experience in it. It is a job that should be done with utmost care and patience for it is the painting part alone that can hide the slight damages of the cabinets as well as make it a unique sight in the kitchen for others to envy about. You may start to consult with your spouse about the type of paint you would prefer for your cabinet.

The repainting kitchen cabinets are an easy task and you may do it alone if the task involves the same paint as the old ones. This is done usually for black cabinet or cabinets with dark colors where there is little room for other lighter colors due to the particular ambience's of the kitchen. If the color of the cabinet needs to be changed from one shade to a totally new shade then certain rules have to be followed so as to get the best finish.

It is prerequisite that you must empty both the cabinet and the kitchen if you are doing the painting in the kitchen itself. You can do either spray painting or with brush. In all such cases you need to protect your face with face mask and hands with gloves. You must then clean the cabinet inside and outside with soap and warm water. After this you need to sander the whole cabinet to get rid off the old paint. You then start with applying primer on every part of the cabinet.

You need to allow the primer to dry and then only start the work of repainting kitchen cabinets so that it sticks on to the cabinet very well. You would need at least two coats of paint and in some case like cherry color you might need three coats of paints. While painting you must ensure that your color is evenly spread throughout the cabinet. If not then it would look as if there has been smudges and odd paint marks.
