Paint Kitchen Cabinets

Home furniture ought to be maintained properly so that it remains durable and lasts for decades. This is more so for kitchen cabinets where the maximum life revolves as members of the family assemble during the morning and the evenings and more so during the holidays. You must therefore paint kitchen cabinets once in two to three years to get the most of your investment as purchasing a new one is an expensive affair.

You have no idea about painting kitchen cabinets and have never ventured to do so before? Now you want to do it by yourself? Your idea is good yet you must know the basics of painting before you can proceed to do it properly. Your cabinet must have already got a coating when you had purchased it from the market and it is perhaps the second time after some years that you are contemplating to paint on it.

Where do you start your painting? As the owner you must be having a fair idea about your kitchen and its content. You have first of all got to empty all the contents from the kitchen including the heavy appliances and other furniture like the small table, stools, chairs and other smaller items. The cabinet should then be emptied of its contents too. In order to paint kitchen cabinets properly you need to have everything removed to other rooms till the time the painting work is completed.

You can then start by identifying the fixed appliances and then cover them with plastic sheets and so should you cover the windows and the doors so that no paint fumes escape into the adjoining rooms or to other houses located nearby. You can then start cleaning the cabinet thoroughly with soap and warm water. After this is done you must sander the whole cabinet to remove whatever old paint is there.

If you have chosen the same paint then there is no need to sander the old paint and you may apply just one coating. But in most cases people generally become bored with the same color and want some change in their kitchen and hence opt to have a new color altogether. You may choose white or off white color

The next step is to apply primer and then after the same is dried you may start to apply the paint of your choice. Your method of paint kitchen cabinets can be done with the help of a brush or spray painting. After the first coat of paint is dry you may apply the second coat so as to get the best finish. You must then allow it to dry by keeping it outside. When the cabinet is fully dry you may start replacing all the items category wise.
