This is because wood has been in use since ages and were the hot property of the royalties to noble men and woman in history and the fact that it has not diminished in charm even today. Not surprisingly wood kitchen cabinets have even started to make appearance in the form of even antique and historic models.

Wood is the most flexible of materials in cabinetry and this is all the more obvious when you go for remodeling your kitchen and also to reface the old cabinet. Although the stainless steel cabinets are quite durable you can never have that soft touch as the wooden cabinet gives. Besides, anything made of wood look ageless and there will never be a dull moment with wooden cabinet in the kitchen.

Wooden cabinets can be expensive and the cost goes up with the increase in storage capacity and the design and ornamentation that come with it. This is the reason why the highly decorated cabinets are usually found in the homes of the wealthy. Yet wood can be expensive when there are repairs or maintain. In the case of stainless steel cabinets this is the reverse.

The most popularly used hard woods for building wood kitchen cabinets are maple, oak, cherry and rose wood. Even though these are hard wood there is slight differences due to which their popularity ratings among customers vary. Maple is hot favorite both among manufacturers and consumers. Rosewood is expensive and is red in color and therefore gives fantastic stain in its natural form.

Cherry too has a red which has magical property like becoming deep red when sun rays falls on it. Oak on the other hand is suitable where there is a lot of moisture and is resistant to it and you should never worry about too much wetness. Among the soft wood where it is easy for better design and carvings and other works of art the popularly used ones are the pine, cedar and redwood.

The redwood is a quality wood and much better than the plywood or fiber board which comes at low cost. The disadvantage of plywood or the fiber board is that they easily bend when used for some time and even crack and are not quite water resistant. Thus, the ultimate choice is yours while selecting your wood kitchen cabinets and if you maintain it then it can serve you well for several decades.
